Liverpool XI vs Brentford: No Isak - Starting lineup, confirmed team news and injury latest

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has not been passed fit to face Brentford tonight.

The British record signing recently started a game for the second time in four days against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League, having built up his fitness gradually after completing a blockbuster £125million move from Newcastle on transfer deadline day.

Isak played alongside fellow summer striker signing Hugo Ekitike for the first time in Wednesday’s 5-1 rout at Deutsche Bank Park, but was withdrawn at half-time.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot subsequently revealed that the Swedish international had suffered a groin injury as he “hoped for the best” and again bemoaned the fact that he had not had a proper pre-season and was not playing for Newcastle before moving to Anfield.

The Dutchman provided a further update on Isak’s fitness when he addressed the media on Friday ahead of Saturday night’s trip to Brentford, with the 26-year-old “a question mark” to feature in west London.

“Alex, not too bad. Question mark for the weekend, so let’s see where he is,” Slot said.

Ekitike leads the line in Isak’s absence, while Mohamed Salah returns on the right wing.

Ryan Gravenberch has not travelled for the match, either. His regular midfield partner Alexis Mac Allister played the majority of the United game sporting protective headgear after an early blow, but featured off the bench without it in Frankfurt

He is only deemed fit enough for the bench, with Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai getting the not.

Giorgi Mamardashvili will continue to deputise in goal in the absence of Alisson Becker, who remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Jeremie Frimpong has been ruled out for a number of weeks after hobbling off with his own hamstring issue in Frankfurt, meaning Conor Bradley starts at right-back.

£116m arrival Florian Wirtz keeps his place in the team and will hope to spark his quiet Liverpool career so far into life.

Liverpool XI: Mamardashvili; Bradley, Van Dijk, Konate, Kerkez; Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Jones; Salah, Ekitike, Gakpo

Subs: Woodman, Gonmez, Endo, Mac Allister, Chiesa, Robertson, Nyoni, Morrison, Ngumoha

Injured: Frimpong, Alisson, Leoni, Isak, Gravenberch

Time and date: 8pm BST today, Saturday October 25, 2025
