Liverpool won't re-sign Luis Suarez because of one key reason

Liverpool won't try to re-sign Luis Suarez and don't need to bring in a new striker this summer according to former England manager Glenn Hoddle.

With Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane both out of form this season and Mohamed Salah linked with a potential transfer away, the Reds have been tipped to strengthen their attacking ranks at the end of the season.

And following an impressive debut season with Atletico Madrid, the Reds have repeatedly been linked with a move for their former number seven despite his controversial stint at Anfield.

But Hoddle believes there is no chance of Jurgen Klopp moving for the Uruguayan, insisting despite his continued impressive goal return, he is no longer up to the standards required to play for Liverpool.

"I don't see that happening. I've watched Suarez this season and he relied on pace, that little bit of zip over five or six yards," the BT Sport pundit said on The Glenn Hoddle Footy Show. "He hasn't got that anymore and I don't think Liverpool will be looking to buy Suarez, I really don't."

And Hoddle thinks despite the Reds' misfiring form this season, Klopp should be more concerned by his defence than his attack.

"Liverpool have been successful playing that system, where Firmino drops in and Salah is still scoring a lot of goals this season," he said. "He's still right up there.

"I think it's at the other end of the pitch. They've had 19 different combinations for central defence. Any team with that problem won't be at their best. Then it puts pressure on the top of the pitch.

"If they were 1-0 up for the past two seasons they knew they could see the game out because we would be defending solid.

"It goes back to when Klopp first arrived. They had to score three goals to win a game. Until (Virgil) van Dijk came and they bought a goalkeeper (Alisson). But this has been brought upon by injuries."
