Liverpool Women booked their place in the knockout stages of the FA Women's Continental League Cup on Wednesday night, despite not kicking a ball.
The Reds concluded their group stage fixtures before Christmas with a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, leaving group B wide open. Liverpool, along with the Manchester club and Leicester City, were all in contention to qualify heading into the final round of matches last night.
Leicester City welcomed Manchester City to the Pirelli Stadium in Burton upon Trent and a late goal from the visitors ensured they finished top of the group, while the Foxes finished third and Liverpool qualified in second. In their previous group stage matches, Matt Beard's side beat Leicester 4-0 away from home and secured narrow 1-0 wins over Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers.

Liverpool now host West Ham in the next round of the competition, with the match set to take place on Wednesday, January 25 at 7:30pm. The other quarter-finalists include Arsenal, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Manchester City and Bristol City.
The Reds kicked off the new year with a heavy 6-0 defeat to Manchester United last weekend and will hope for a much more positive result when travel to face Chelsea on Sunday. Liverpool are currently ninth in the table and only five points above bottom-placed Leicester City.
Later this month, Liverpool will also face another way trip to Chelsea on January 28 for the fourth round of the Vitality Women's FA Cup, before they return to league action in early February against Reading.
