Liverpool Women's Hospital cordoned off following 'explosion'

Liverpool Women's Hospital was cordoned off by the emergency services today due to an ongoing incident.

Police have released few details but pictures and video show a car on fire outside the Crown Street hospital.

Merseyside Police have since confirmed they were called to the scene at 11am today (Sunday, November 14).

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a 'bang' and seeing dark smoke from the area.

A number of roads around the hospital have been cordoned off and Merseyside Fire and Rescue along with a Royal Logistic Corps army vehicle are at the scene.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that an incident occurred at around 11am today (Sunday, 14 November) outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

"A cordon around the affected area has been established and a number of surrounding roads have been closed.

"Emergency services are currently at the scene assessing the situation."
