Liverpool Women Player of the Season signs new deal as shirt number swap confirmed

Liverpool's 2020/2021 Player of the Season Missy Bo Kearns has signed a new contract with the club.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakout season with the Reds representing the club 15 times in the FA Women's Championship.

It was confirmed yesterday that the midfielder has agreed to extend her stay at Prenton Park.

After signing her new deal, Kearns said: "It’s a dream come true to continue staying at the club, it’s a big honour for me. I just want to play for Liverpool and I’m over the moon.

“Individually, last year was my breakthrough season. I got the opportunity just after Christmas to showcase what I can do and I feel I took that chance.

“It still feels like yesterday I was in the Under-11s and I’ve taken it all day by day and just enjoyed each moment playing with a Liverpool shirt on.”

The Liverpool native rose through the ranks in the academy system and is now one of the brightest players on the club's books.

Kearns' performances last season were rewarded with a new squad number swapping the 21 shirt for number seven next season.

The homegrown talent helped LFCW to a third place finish in the FA Women's Championship last season and manager Matt Beard hopes she will continue to give her side a boost.

Beard said: "I've watched a lot of Bo recently and I'm really excited by her. She's got everything to become a top, top player.

"She's going to be a big player for the club. She's a local girl, she's a Liverpool fan and I'm delighted she's committing her future to the club.

"Technically she's very gifted, she's a clever player and a set-piece specialist which is vitally important.

"I'm really excited to see how she can kick on and develop now because it was a real first taste of a lot of minutes in the second half of last season."

The new number seven first appeared for the senior team in the 2018/2019 season when she made a small number of substitute appearances in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

The England under-19 international signed her first professional contract in January 2020 and is set to continue her career in red.
