Liverpool woman reunited with her lost pet parrot Chanel after video goes viral

During coronavirus lockdown we are all supposed to stay home as much as possible.

But this week one woman found an unusual reason to roam the streets: she was looking for her lost parrot.

The bird, named Chanel, is an African grey, a popular species of parrot in the UK and Europe.

Her owner, called Sandra, filmed herself walking around outside trying to find Chanel by loudly calling out her name after the bird flew off.

"Please everyone... my parrot's gone," she told viewers of the video that she posted to social media.

Thankfully, Chanel, whose full name is reportedly Chanel Chanellington, was later found and reunited with its owner.

Sandra thanked everyone who helped find her parrot in a later video, saying: "If it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have found her."

The videos shared by Sandra, who describes herself as "Chanel's mam" have been watched nearly 600,000 times on Twitter alone.

Viewers have called her "an icon" and "my new idol".

African grey parrots are reportedly among the most cleverest animals other than humans, with various studies showing them to have similar intelligence to a human toddler.

Earlier this year it was revealed in a study in the Current Biology journal that African grey parrots are willing to help other birds in need.

They also have strong stamina and can fly for up to 10 km per day.

There is plenty of advice online for people who have lost a pet parrot. Experts say that many domesticated parrots will soon return home for food and shelter even if they've flown away.
