Liverpool winger explains why he has lost confidence in the club and will quit Reds this summer

Liverpool youngster Bobby Adekanye has confirmed that he will leave the Reds this summer when his current contract expires.

The Nigerian-born Dutch youth international winger is a former Barcelona junior and arrived on Merseyside in 2015 after spending the previous season on loan at PSV Eindhoven.

Adekanye told Voetbalzone that he had rejected a new three-year deal because he was left out of Jurgen Klopp's squad for the pre-season tour of the USA with the party including several fringe players because of senior members being given time off after the World Cup finals.

He said: “That didn't happen in the end. That is disappointing and it has contributed to the fact that I do not want to renew my contract.

“If they promise such things and it doesn't happen, I don't know what will happen if I sign for three years.

“That confidence is no longer there, even though I still greatly respect the club.

“They don't just extend for three years, so maybe there was a schedule behind it. But I no longer have faith in that.

“In terms of money, things are fine, but you have nothing if there is no perspective behind it. Money will come later, I now need playing minutes.”

The ECHO revealed back in January that Adekanye was set to run down his contract with LFC correspondent James Pearce writing that the player has shown flashes of brilliance for Neil Critchley's under-23s and has scored some spectacular goals at youth level, but his progress has been hampered by injuries and a lack of consistency.
