Liverpool won their sixth European Cup on a stifling night in Madrid as they did enough to hold off Tottenham in the Champions League final.
Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the perfect start, firing in a penalty after Moussa Sissoko was deemed to have handled the ball after only 26 seconds.
Sissoko blocked Sadio Mane's cross with his chest, initially, but then swung his arm down on to the ball leaving referee Damir Skomina with little option but to award the spot-kick.
Harry Kane, who was a surprise inclusion in Tottenham's starting line-up having not played since the quarter-finals almost two months ago, struggled to make an impact as Spurs failed to create enough clear chances to seriously test Alisson as much as Mauricio Pochettino would have hoped.
And substitute Divock Origi made sure of the result in the final minutes with an arrowed finish into the corner.
While Pochettino's wait for silverware at Tottenham goes on, Jurgen Klopp sealed his first major trophy for Liverpool, 12 months after losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid.
