Liverpool 'willing' to pay Khephren Thuram asking price as Barcelona problem emerges

Liverpool are reportedly ready to pay €30million (£25.6m) for the services of Nice midfielder, Khephren Thuram.

The Reds have been strongly linked with a move for the Frenchman in recent weeks as Jurgen Klopp completes an overhaul of his midfield department. Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have already arrived at Anfield to bolster this department and there could yet be further changes coming.

Thuram made a total of 48 appearances in all competitions last season and was recently in action at the European Under-21 Championship, suffering an exit at the quarter-final stage of the competition. It is safe to say his performances have not gone unnoticed, with Liverpool not the only club said to be eyeing a move for the 22-year-old.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are the latest sides to be linked with Thuram, with El Nacional stating the former have been urged to target the youngster as a Sergio Busquets replacement. Nice's asking price, however, could prove to be a sticking point as Barcelona "neither want nor can pay" this quoted figure.

It is added that Bayern and Liverpool are "willing to pay everything it would cost" to sign the midfielder and are both "preparing a first offensive" to take Thuram out of Ligue 1.

Thuram has two years remaining on his current contract with Nice, leaving his employers in a relatively strong position as regards negotiations. Any potential transfer deal would see the Reds take their summer spending past the £100m mark, having already spent a figure of £95m on two new recruits.

The ECHO recently reported Liverpool's long-standing interest in Thuram remains unchanged as the club weigh up the possibility of a third summer signing. No formal move has been made at this stage by Jurgen Klopp's side.
