Liverpool 'willing to pay' £42.5m to sign Gavi after 'abysmal' Barcelona contract offer

Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Barcelona youngster Gavi.

The 17-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest prospects at the Nou Camp, but his contract is beginning to run down. His current deal is set to expire at the end of next season, and the Spanish giants are keen on agreeing an extension.

Uncertainty over Gavi’s future has led Liverpool to be linked with his services. The youngster typically plays in midfield, but has also featured on the left wing.

And according to a report in Spanish news outlet La Porteria, Gavi and his representatives have rejected a recent contract offer from Barcelona. It has been claimed that the offer sent by Barca was ”abysmal” and showed a significant difference between what the player is asking for.

Interestingly, the report also says that Gavi also has an offer on the table from a Premier League club, which happens to be Liverpool. It has been claimed that the Reds have offered the teenager a “star salary” to move to Anfield this summer.

Gavi has a release clause worth £42.5million in his contract, and the report says that Liverpool are willing to pay that fee this summer. A yearly wage of £7.6m (£146,000 per week) has reportedly been offered to Gavi by the Reds.

However, despite Gavi and his representatives rejecting Barcelona’s offer, it has been said that the player’s preference is to remain at the Nou Camp for the foreseeable future.
