Liverpool will have to pay £250m for Erling Haaland as new transfer details emerge

Liverpool could end up paying more than four times Erling Haaland’s initial release clause if they successfully make a move for the Borussia Dortmund striker, according to reports.

The 21-year-old has maintained his phenomenal form since arriving at Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, scoring 76 goals in 75 games.

His prolific nature in front of goal has reportedly prompted interest in the Norwegian from several of Europe’s biggest clubs - with Liverpool rumoured to be one of them.

It is widely reported that Haaland has a release clause in the region of £63m that is set to become active in the summer, sparking a frenzy of transfer speculation.

However, any potential deal may end up costing more than four times that amount.

That’s according to a report from L’Equipe, via Get French Football Now , which claims to have learned the possible fees involved in Haaland’s next move.

In addition to the £63m release clause, it is estimated that both his agent Mino Raiola and father Alf-Inge Haaland will receive £17m each in commission fees.

Haaland’s wage demands also form part of the equation, believed to be between £25-£30m per year, depending on bonuses, as part of a six-year contract.

Combined with his £63m release clause, if correct, these additional costs take the total price of the Norway international's next transfer to somewhere between £247m and £277m.

Liverpool are one of four Premier League clubs that have been rumoured to be interested in the star, alongside Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and PSG.

However, as one of the most exciting talents in world football, Dortmund are still determined to try and keep hold of Haaland, whose contract runs until 2024.

"I think we will speak in the next few weeks," the club’s CEO Hans-Joachim said last month.

"We are not alone in control of this. We are a bit dependent on signals coming from him and his advisor.

“We have no pressure to negotiate because we don’t necessarily have to extend the contract.

"The question is: does he trigger the clause or does he not? But we will try not to find out until March or April."
