Liverpool White Christmas looking more likely as bookies slash odds

There's a chance Liverpool could see a White Christmas this year as bookies have slashed the odds of snow falling on Christmas day.

The odds on Liverpool being sprinkled by snow have shortened to 5/1 by Boylesports.

The chances of snow falling are however most likely in Scotland with many people betting that snow will fall in Edinburgh or Glasgow on December 25.

Temperatures plummeted to sub-zero levels north of the border last week as winter began to show its teeth and the forecast has triggered an increase in the number of punters backing snow to fall on December 25 th .

BoyleSports cut the chances of Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports seeing festive snow into 3/1 from 4/1 this week, making them two of the most likely big cities to see a white Christmas.

But odds on Manchester and Liverpool being sprinkled are also shortening at 5/1 from 6/1, while the midlands may well be the place to be to avoid it with Birmingham at a slightly more remote 8/1.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Some forecasters are predicting the coldest December for some time and our markets make for chilling reading after a flurry of betting activity this week.

"We’ve had to make a white Christmas in the likes of Edinburgh and Glasgow just 3/1 from 5/1 with an increasing number of punters expecting to cash in.”

The Met Office long range forecast for the end of December said: "Remaining unsettled to start the period, with a mixture of blustery showers and brighter spells for most of the UK, potentially falling as snow over mountains. The showers, accompanied by milder temperatures, will likely be heaviest in the west, whilst areas further east will experience drier spells.

"Windy conditions expected with potential coastal gales. Towards the end of the period, there is a chance of more settled conditions, mainly in the north and east.

"Outbreaks of rain or showers are still expected at times, mainly in southern and western parts, which may become wintry on high ground, and perhaps at lower levels at times.

"Temperatures are likely to be around average for this time of year, however, there remains chance of turning colder again later in the period."
