Liverpool were more interested in Tiger Woods than Manchester City on Sunday

Andy Robertson has revealed that the Liverpool players were more interested in Tiger Woods than Manchester City prior to their Premier League showdown with Chelsea.

When Jurgen Klopp's squad arrived at Anfield for Sunday's game, title rivals City were in action against Crystal Palace.

Liverpool need City to slip up during the run-in in order to end their 29-year wait for the top-flight crown, but Klopp has repeatedly told the Reds to focus on their own games rather than fretting about events elsewhere.

As a result it was Woods' charge at Augusta National to win the Masters rather than City's triumph at Selhurst Park which was on the TV screens in the dressing room.

The 13 minutes of football that could decide Liverpool and Manchester City's title race

Asked what the reaction was when City scored late on to wrap up a 3-1 victory over Palace, Robertson said: “I didn't even know they had scored a third, I was watching the golf to be honest!

“I wanted Tiger to win it. We had the golf on. I was watching it with James Milner in the treatment room.

“I'm sure some of the lads were aware of the City score but it wasn't something we spoke about. We didn't know the City result beforehand but because we hadn't heard anything we just guessed they had won.”

With Woods having clinched his first major for 11 years, Liverpool are now bidding to end a painful drought of their own.

Klopp's men certainly showed no signs of feeling the pressure as they clinched a first home win over Chelsea since 2012. The Reds are once again two points clear of City, who have a game in hand.

“I think we're all enjoying it,” Robertson said.

“You saw that with our performance. The fans enjoyed it, we enjoyed it. It's easier when you are in front in a game.

The moments which show Liverpool's most underappreciated world-class player proving his worth - again

“This is the first time a lot of us have found ourselves in a position like this and you have to enjoy experiences like this. Hopefully we'll be celebrating come the end. But we know there's a lot of hard work still to be done.

“It's a massive three points for us but we've still got four games to go. We need to put this one behind us now and push on.

“Every game is so big at this stage of the season. Every team is fighting for something and there's a lot more pressure on you.

“It was big against Chelsea because they have so much quality but Cardiff will be equally as difficult next weekend. It will be a different type of game but the three points are just as vital.”

Now the focus shifts to Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Porto.

The Reds, who lead 2-0 in the tie, have happy memories of their previous trip to the Estadio do Dragao last season when they won 5-0, but Robertson insists the Portuguese champions command respect.

"Winning 2-0 at home was a good result for us but now we've got a tough away game," Robertson added.

"We know the tie is far from dead. Porto are a different team at home.

"We need to be at 100%. We need to recover and ensure we're ready to go on Wednesday night to hopefully secure that semi-final spot.

"We've been to Porto before so we know what to expect. I'm sure it will be a very different game compared to what we did last time.

"We were just too good for them at their place last year but they're a different team now. We know how hard it will be but we'll be prepared for it.  It's all about getting the job done.

"We want to go as far as possible in the Champions League and we're taking it right to the wire in the Premier League, whether we win it or not remains to be seen.

"We'll go flat out for both but we know how hard it's going to be."
