Liverpool weighing up contract offer for goalkeeper Javi Cendon

Liverpool are considering offering a permanent contract to teenage goalkeeper Javi Cendon.

The Spaniard, who left Villarreal in July, has joined the Reds on their pre-season training camp in Austria this summer.

The 19-year-old has impressed goalkeeping coach John Achterberg thus far and will be further assessed upon returning to Melwood with the first team this week.

And he could earn himself a permanent deal with the club should he continue to shine in training.

Although Loris Karius is expected to depart permanently this summer, Liverpool are well stocked in terms of back-ups to first-choice shot-stopper Alisson Becker.

Adrian San Miguel is set to continue in the role of second choice after featuring regularly across his debut season at club, while Caoimhin Kelleher is expected to remain at Anfield as third in line.

As such, Cendon would be initially signed as an academy player to compete with Vitezslav Jaros for a place in Barry Lewtas’ U23s.

The path to a starting place in that team is likely to be cleared by a loan departure for Kamil Grabara, who spent last season at Huddersfield Town.

The Pole is attracting interest from a number of clubs ahead of another temporary move away from Merseyside.
