Liverpool weigh up Takumi Minamino future as Southampton make transfer deadline loan move

Liverpool are weighing up a late loan offer from Southampton for Takumi Minamino.

The Japan international joined the Reds 13 months ago but has struggled to break into the side on a regular basis since his £7million move from Red Bull Salzburg.

Minamino netted his first Premier League goal for the champions to open the scoring in the 7-0 win over Crystal Palace on December 19.

However, the 26-year-old has played just six minutes of Premier League action since as Jurgen Klopp's side took a dip in form until their back-to-back wins over Tottenham and West Ham last week.

Klopp favoured Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri ahead of Minamino for Sunday's 3-1 triumph at West Ham after Roberto Firmino was dropped to the bench and Sadio Mane suffered an injury.

The ECHO understands Liverpool are mulling over their next move ahead of Monday night's 11pm transfer deadline.

The Reds, it is understood, do not need to offload a non-homegrown player in order to push through the imminent arrival of Ozan Kabak.

It's been a frustrating year at Anfield for Minamino who has been unable to build up any real momentum.

The versatile forward has played just nine times in the Premier League, starting just the one game, at Palace last month.

Minamino has spent the last three games as an unused substitute and would appear to be way down the pecking order at Anfield.
