Liverpool 'weigh up' Marco Asensio transfer as Jurgen Klopp renews interest

Liverpool are rumoured to be 'weighing up' the opportunity to sign Real Madrid midfielder Marco Asensio as reports emerge that he is unhappy at Los Blancos.

Spanish outlet ABC claim that the 25-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements by Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, which in turn has led to a breakdown in the relationship between the player and manager.

Asensio was an unused substitute for Real's recent shock Champions League defeat to FC Sheriff Tiraspol.

The midfielder's omission came as somewhat of a surprise to both the Real fans and the player himself considering he had scored a hat-trick just six days prior against Mallorca.

However, Ancelotti leaving him on the bench for the entirety of the recent Champions League tie is a damning indictment of how Asensio is viewed by those currently at the top of the Real Madrid hierarchy.

The same report mentions how Asensio is now 'pondering' his future at the club as he concedes it could prove too difficult to train his way back into Ancelotti's plans.

Real Madrid have been quick to notify a number of clubs across the continent that Asensio is now on the market and available for purchase.

This news has reportedly peaked Liverpool's interest, who have previous when it comes to interest in Asensio.

Reds boss Klopp is thought to be an admirer of the Spaniard and could look to take advantage of the fact he is edging closer to the latter stages of his contract.

The 25-year-old's current deal expires in the summer of 2023, meaning by next summer he will have jut one year left to run.

That places Liverpool in the powerful negotiating position of being able to fork out less than they otherwise would have, or Real risk losing him for nothing the following summer.

Depending on Liverpool's willingness to strike a deal, Asensio could find himself playing at Anfield as early as the turn of the year - such is his reported desperation to leave Real Madrid.

It is unclear what kind of figure the La Liga giants would ask for, but given the perilous financial situation Spanish football finds itself in it is unlikely to be out of Liverpool's reach.

However, the Reds are not the only Premier League outfit to harbour interest in Asensio - Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are also keeping tabs on his situation.

Asensio would be the third Real Madrid midfielder to flee to the Emirates in some capacity in the last two years, after Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard both ended up at Arsenal - the latter permanently.
