Liverpool weather: sleet and snow set to hit say Met Office

It may be spring but the weather doesn't feel that way in Liverpool.

Merseyside is set to be hit with wintry showers in the next few days, with the Met Office even predicting sleet and snow. Temperatures are also set to drop below zero, with a minimum -4C forecast this evening.

Today, on Thursday, April 7, racegoers will head to the first day of the Grand National festival. Unfortunately the weather isn't too great for them with blustery showers expected.

It will be windy at times but there will still be sunny spells throughout the day. Showers could turn wintry at times with sleet or hail falling. The Met Office say today will feel colder than usual thanks to a northerly wind, with a maximum temperature of 9C.

Wind and showers will ease overnight but temperatures will drop significantly. A widespread frost will develop into the evening with minimum temperatures of -4C.

On Friday it will be a dry and bright start but it will still be cold. In the late morning showers will arrive and it is Friday afternoon that wintry showers with a mix of rain, sleet and snow will batter the region.

From Saturday to Sunday, it will feel cold again over the weekend. There will be less outbreaks of rain but there won't be many sunny spells either, with temperatures remaining low.

The BBC weather outlook said: "High pressure will develop over the weekend, bringing settled conditions. Saturday will be largely dry with plenty of sunny spells. There will be a few isolated showers in the afternoon, however.

"Sunday will be mostly cloudy but dry. Turning windy through the day, and the chance of a few spots of rain. Monday will be windy and unsettled with heavy outbreaks of rain."
