Liverpool weather: risk of thunder before rain eases and the sun returns

Those living in Merseyside are set for thunder over the next few days, as regular showers are expected.

The Met Office predicts that rain will hit Liverpool today, with the risk of thunder when showers are at the heaviest. Temperatures are close to seasonal average, with highs of 20C still on the cards.

Tomorrow on Thursday, June 29, showers will take up most of the day once again, with occasional thunder possible. The weather remains unsettled with warm temperatures despite the storms until Friday.

Showers will be lighter and less frequent on Friday, as a band of showery rain moves southwards on Saturday. Come Sunday, there will be some some decent sunny breaks.

BBC weather's Chris Fawkes said: "We start off on Wednesday morning with a band of rain across east Scotland, eastern areas of England, clearing quite quickly and then essentially when that has gone it is a day of sunshine and showers.

"Heavy showers and thunderstorms for Scotland and some slow moving storms lining up along south west England, so there will be a few areas here that will see shower, after shower, after shower. That said probably not that many showers for East Anglia and the south east of England and that is where we will see the highest temperatures with lots of sunshine."
