Liverpool weather: rain batters city before sunshine moves in

People across the city have woken up to heavy rain this morning on the first day of the month.

There's been a similar pattern of wet weather so far this week which is set to ease for the rest of this week when sunny spells are expected. The Met Office forecast for today shows rain before turning overcast by lunchtime.

The rain and clouds will clear by this evening, making way for sunshine by 5pm. The average temperature for today will be 15 degrees, with highs of 17.

The Met Office forecast for the North West on Wednesday said: "Heavy and possibly thundery showers in the south, at first, will soon clear. Long sunny spells developing widely from late morning with a few well scattered showers during the afternoon. Feeling pleasant in the sunshine. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

"Any remaining showers quickly clearing, leaving the evening dry with lengthy clear spells. Becoming rather chilly in places, perhaps with some mist patches developing by dawn. Minimum temperature 5 °C."
