Liverpool weather: More rain on the way for city region

It has already been a bad start to the week with Merseyside being battered with rain yesterday.

But the bad news is, more rain is on the way today, according to the Met Office. On Tuesday morning, there will be some rain showers with sunny spells, with the day reaching highs of 14C in the region.

The forecast suggests some showers will be heavy in some areas and potentially even thundery. But as we get into the afternoon, those showers become "more isolated", with sunny spells.

On Tuesday evening, the Met Office said: "Long sunny or clear spells during the evening with a few isolated showers. A band of rain will arrive from the northwest from midnight, with heavy bursts over the hills. Minimum temperature 7C."

Looking ahead to Wednesday, early morning rain will start the day ahead of more sunny spells and showers, however those showers will be scattered during the afternoon with temperatures reaching up to 17C in some areas. Thursday will be sunnier, with few areas expecting rain, but on Friday the showers will again develop.

The Met Office predicts: "Tuesday sees the focus of heaviest showers shifting to northern and eastern UK where some showers will be heavy and thundery."

Looking ahead to the Jubilee weekend, Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Helen Caughey said: “While it may be an unsettled start for some with showers for northern and western areas, many areas will see generally settled conditions over much of the long Jubilee Weekend, with plenty of dry weather and good spells of sunshine. Temperatures will be widely into the low 20s, feeling warmer in the sunshine, although temperatures will drop off quickly into the evenings.

“The main source of any uncertainty for the weekend itself is to do with how far a plume of warm air to the south encroaches over southern areas of the UK. At present it’s looking like it could glance the far southeast on Saturday and Sunday, which would bring with it the risk of some showers, although the heaviest showers look likely to be contained over the continent.”
