Liverpool weather latest as strong winds batter Merseyside

Liverpool has been battered by ferocious winds this weekend, with the forceful gusts causing some destruction to local parks.

Last week saw sunshine bathe the region, with Wednesday (May 20) reaching temperatures of a scorching 25C  but the good weather came to an abrupt end.

Strong winds have stuck around this weekend, with the  Met Office  reporting expected gusts of up to 44mph.

But today has looked a little brighter and tonight will remain dry though rather cloudy at first.

And the weather appears set to change from tomorrow.

The cloud is expected to break up through the course of the evening to leave long clear periods overnight - but there is the chance of fog developing for some areas of the North West.

Rural spots can expect temperatures to drop, with grass frost expected and a minimum temperature of 3°C.

Next week is looking significantly brighter and the Met Office reports there will be a dry start to the week, with plenty of sunshine on offer when any fog clears.

There will be breeze but it's expected to be significantly warmer with a maximum temperature of 22 °C.

Thursday will bring sunny spells and it will feel warm in the sunshine as the weekend approaches.

Clouds and patchy rain early on Tuesday are expected to clear to sunny spells as the day progresses and Wednesday is expected to be mostly dry but cloudy.
