Liverpool weather: heavy rain and thunderstorms expected to hit

Today could be the start of a rainy week ahead, as heavy downpours and thunderstorms are expected across Merseyside.

After a few days of hot weather, the temperature will take a drop today and it will feel much cooler. Scattered showers are predicted to break up some bright spells today.

But overall, Friday is looking cloudy with heavy rain moving in through the afternoon, the Met Office reports. Maximum temperatures will hit 17C but it will feel much colder, due to cloudy periods.

On Saturday it will feel warmer but don't let this fool you. Showers are expected throughout the day, though there will be sunny spells too.

From Sunday onwards, scattered showers and breezy weather is forecast. The Met Office has reported that heavy rain fall from Sunday to Tuesday could come with local thunderstorms over Merseyside.

The BBC weather outlook reads: "Sunday is expected to be rather cloudy with a few spells of light rain moving in from the west. Occasional sunny spells are also possible, mainly in the late afternoon.

"On Monday, it looks set to be rather cloudy again with scattered showers, these most likely in the afternoon. Tuesday may see longer sunny spells, but isolated showers will also develop."
