Liverpool weather forecast: Trains hit by flooding as rain set to batter Merseyside

Heavy rain is predicted to batter Merseyside and get gradually worse throughout the day and into the night - and flooding has already affected train services this morning.

Services affected include:

  • Merseyrail services between Hamilton Square and Ellesmere Port / Chester and Hooton and Chester
  • Transport for Wales services between Chester and Shrewsbury
  • Virgin Trains services between Llandudno Junction and Chester
  • Virgin Trains services between Chester and Crewe

National Rail say the disruption could last until 11am.

On Merseyrail buses have been requested to run between Rock Ferry and Chester/Ellesmere Port.

And amid a yellow warning for rain the Met Office say although the rain will become lighter and patchier this morning and the wind will ease, during late afternoon and evening, cloud will increase with heavy and persistent rain arriving.

Maximum temperature 17 °C.

Tonight

And rain is set to batter Liverpool tonight.

The Met Office say: "The rain will slowly spread northwards this evening. It will become persistent across the region through the night, with further heavy outbreaks for many."
