Liverpool weather forecast: Storm Hannah to bring heavy bursts of rain

Those waking up to clear skies on Friday morning in Merseyside may be hopeful of  a day without umbrellas - but they're set for a drenching.

The Met Office is forecasting rain arriving from mid-morning until late afternoon, including some heavy bursts.

Even after the rain retreats, Scousers will have to put up with breezes, and temperatures as low as 9 degrees - a sharp contrast to the 22°C temperatures enjoyed over the Easter bank holiday .

But this is only a momentary reprieve before Saturday's skies unleash torrents over Merseyside.

The bad weather can be traced back to Storm Hannah , the eighth storm of the season, which is set to bring rain and thunder across the UK.

The latest in a spate of low pressure systems, Hannah is expected to bring winds as high as 70mph to the western coasts of the UK with 55mph gusts making their way inland.

Knife crime rose by a third in a year of fatal stabbings that rocked Merseyside

Frank Saunders a Chief Forecaster at the Met Office said: “A low-pressure system will sweep in from the west during Friday evening and Saturday bringing strong north-westerly winds to Ireland and then parts of the UK; the strongest and most damaging winds will be felt across Ireland."

He also added:"Trees are coming into full leaf and many people will be on holiday, so the impacts of a late April storm may differ subtly from one in mid-winter.”

Ireland and South-West Wales are expected to be the worst affected. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning across the south of Wales.
