Merseyside will be battered by 12 hours of rain in the run up to the weekend.

According to the Met Office , Friday will be a wash out across the region with showers due to begin at around midday.

The rain will be heavy from around 12pm until 8pm with a 95% chance of wet weather within those hours.

Wind spells will also pick up during this time so that Friday afternoon commute could become a messy one.

Temperatures do not appear to be lowering during this time however and most of the day is expected to remain between 12°C and 17°C.

A forecaster for the Met Office said: "After a sunny start for some, often heavy rain will arrive from the south by midday.

"It will be persistent through the rest of the day. with strengthening winds. Maximum temperature 18 °C."

Over the weekend the weather will follow a similar pattern with the Met Office predicting that Saturday will be mostly wet and windy, with sunshine and scattered showers following on Sunday and Monday.

The showers will be often heavy, with the risk of thunder but winds will begin to ease.
