Liverpool weather forecast: Bank Holiday set to be one of the coldest on record

As the bank holiday weekend begins temperatures across Merseyside are plummeting.

Across the country people have been warned to prepare for frosty conditions and even snow.

Thankfully Merseyside is set to miss the worst of the weather , although it will still be chilly and cloudy for the majority of the bank holiday weekend.

Temperatures will barely breach the double figure mark with a high of 11C expected all wekeend.

Britain could see the coldest Early May Bank Holiday on record as temperatures plunge close to -6C with sleet, ice and widespread frost.

The lowest temperature ever recorded on the Early May Bank Holiday was - 6.4C in Grantown-on-Spey in Scotland in 1981, and the same temperature was recorded on the same weekend in Kinbrace in Scotland in 1988.

Met Office forecaster Steven Keates said: "I don't think we'll get lower than that, but I wouldn't completely rule it out, so we'll keep an eye on that one."

Saturday:

The sun will break through the clouds periodically throughout the day.

It's going to feel chilly thought due to a northerly breeze and partly cloudy skies.

Maximum temperature 11C.

Sunday:

Aside from the odd shower, a mostly dry day, with the best of the sunshine through the morning.

 Generally lighter winds and so feeling pleasant enough in the sunshine.

Maximum temperature 11C.

Monday:

Rain will hit early in the morning and the rest of the day is set to be overcast and cold.

The maximum temperature is just 9C.
