Liverpool weather forecast: Bank Holiday Monday to get sunnier as the day goes on

If you want an excuse for a lie in on Bank Holiday Monday, here it is - it'll be freezing, and the sun doesn't come out until the afternoon anyway.

That's according to the Met Office forecast for Merseyside, which predicts temperatures as low as 8 degrees.

Scousers will wake up to cloudy skies, but by early afternoon the sun should peep out and by the end of the day it will be ever so slightly warmer.

And you may as well make the most of it because Tuesday is likely to be rainy and on Wednesday that turns to downpours.

Across the country people have been warned to prepare for frosty conditions and even snow.

Thankfully Merseyside is set to miss the worst of the weather , although it will still be chilly and cloudy for the majority of the bank holiday weekend.

The lowest temperature ever recorded on the Early May Bank Holiday was - 6.4C in Grantown-on-Spey in Scotland in 1981, and the same temperature was recorded on the same weekend in Kinbrace in Scotland in 1988.
