Liverpool weather forecast as thunder set to hit city

Met Office warnings of thunder and rain were proven right this afternoon, as initial sunshine was crowded out by black storm clouds across the city.

A deluge of rain began in the city around 3pm with thunder heard in parts of the city.

The changeable weather is set to continue throughout the day.

A Met Office forecaster said: "After a cool and bright start, the cloud will soon bubble up to give a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers during the day. The showers will be heavy and possibly thundery in places."

Those lucky enough to find a patch of sun will experience highs of 18°C, while for the majority walking around the city today, it will feel closer to 13°C.

As the afternoon gives way to evening, Liverpudlians can expect the skies to clear and the heat to vanish with temperatures tonight dropping to 4°C.

More of the same is to be expected through Friday with a 90% chance of rain in the afternoon. The same can be expected into the weekend as more cloud is set to gather, bringing dark skies and rain with more chance of thunder.
