Liverpool weather forecast as Met Office issues yellow warning amid thunderstorms

A yellow weather warning is in force across Merseyside as the Met Office expects thunderstorms to hit the region.

Liverpool has been battered with lightning and thunder storms in recent days, alongside sporadic but heavy rainfall.

Now, according to the Met Office, thunderstorms will cast a dark shadow over this evening.

A thunderstorm warning remains in place today and covers the whole of Merseyside.

Although some places will remain dry, slow moving heavy showers and thunderstorms may lead to disruption due to flooding.

The yellow warning also suggests flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with potential damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong wind.

Fast flowing or deep floodwater is also possible which could cause a danger to life.

Last night, Speke and Garston suffered the brunt of the flooding problems, with a number of people having to be rescued from their cars after becoming stuck in the flood.

Temperatures today remain high, reaching 20°C and this week will continue to be warm for most with the risk of heavy showers and thunderstorms breaking out across many areas.

The thunderstorms are expected to last until tomorrow, June 18, with the yellow weather warning still in place.
