Liverpool weather as thunderstorms and heavy rain expected to hit

Thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to hit Merseyside today.

The Met Office reports that there will be a unsettled week with a mixture of sunny spells, warm temperatures and thundery conditions. To start off the week, on Monday, September 5, it will be a dry and sunny morning but the risk of showers develops in the afternoon.

A band of rain will make its way into the evening, adding to the muggy conditions. Rain is expected to turn heavy and thundery at times into the evening.

On Tuesday, there will be more heavy showers with a risk of hail and thunder again. It will feel fresher than Monday, however, with cooler temperatures.

For the rest of the week, the unsettled forecast will continue. Forecasts say showers will be potentially heavy at times with brisk winds, hail and thunder, leading to the risk of some localised flooding.

Deputy Chief, Jason Kelly added: “Whilst we are confident that low pressure will dominate the weather well into next week, the day-to-day forecast is not certain at this stage. But more generally, each day there will be a risk of showers or longer spells of rain for many areas of the country. It is likely that more prolonged showers will bring a risk of thunderstorms too. And in some areas, most likely in the southwest, rainfall totals will build through the week.”
