Liverpool weather as thunder, lightning and hail to batter city

Thunder, lightning and hail is set to batter Liverpool today as temperatures dip.

A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in place for most of England, Scotland and east Wales until 9am on Saturday.

But Liverpool will be hit by thunder between 10am and 12pm.

The Met Office said: "Early thunderstorms should clear through the morning leaving a changeable afternoon of sunshine and showers, these merging to longer spells of rain at times."

Experts warn the heavy rain showers could cause flooding quickly.

Hour by hour

  • 5am to 10am: Light shower, 16C
  • 10am to 12pm: Thunder, 17C
  • 12pm to 2pm: Light shower, 18C
  • 2pm to 5pm: Heavy showers, 19C
  • 5pm to 8pm: Light showers, 17C
  • 8pm to 9pm: Heavy showers, 16C
  • 9pm to 12: Cloudy, 14C

What to expect

  • Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds
  • Fast flowing or deep floodwater is possible, causing a danger to life
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Some communities might become cut off if roads flood
  • Power cuts might occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
