Liverpool weather as Met Office forecasts downpours and gales

Over the past few weeks Liverpool has been blessed with hot sunny weather, but things took a turn for the worse this weekend.

And Monday hasn't been much better, with gales and rainy showers dominating the forecast.

It's also felt a lot cooler, with temperatures falling to the low teens, meaning some people have put their heating on.

The Met Office forecast for the city for this week is pretty bleak, with temperatures struggling to reach 15 degrees over the next few days.

There is a glimmer of hope however as the long range forecast predicts a return to sunny weather at the weekend and into next week.

The Met Office forecast said: "Cool and breezy tonight with spells of rain tending to ease as the night progresses. Staying mostly cloudy, some clear spells may break through towards the end of the night.

"A wet and grey start tomorrow with a moderate breeze. The odd burst of rain at first but will ease through the day to leave just some showers later. Clear spells tomorrow night.

"As a low moves away on Wednesday, it will bring some unstable conditions and showers, particularly in the morning.

"Drier overnight and light winds. Thursday will see a mixture of variable cloud, some hazy sunshine, and showery outbreaks in places.

"A low pressure system will move in on Friday bringing some heavy rain and stronger winds."
