Liverpool warned of planned Chelsea double transfer amid Conor Gallagher dilemma

Liverpool have been urged to avoid signing Chelsea duo Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher by former Premier League striker Troy Deeney. The Reds are understood to be desperate to bolster Jurgen Klopp's midfield at the end of the summer and have been linked with the pair.

Borussia Dortmund starlet Jude Bellingham is another name that has been linked with a move to Anfield, though his eye-watering price tag is proving to be an issue. Other alternatives have begun to be tipped to join since reports that they had pulled out of the race for Bellingham.

According to The Times, Liverpool are considering alternatives to the England international and Gallagher has been one identified. The Cobham graduate has struggled for regular starts at Stamford Bridge and has been linked with a move away, as has Mount.

The playmaker's contract in west London expires next summer and a new deal is yet to be signed with the 24-year-old. As reported earlier this month by football.london , Liverpool have made Mount their priority transfer target and believe this summer presents an opportunity to sign him at a reduced price.

However, Deeney has doubts whether Gallagher and Mount would change much on Merseyside. "It seems as if Liverpool are keen to sign Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher from Chelsea," he said to The Sun.

"Now, they are two decent players and a lot younger than their current midfield, which clearly needs some refreshing. But those two are not players who would go to Anfield and change the whole mood of the club. They are more like younger versions of what Liverpool already have.

"Jude Bellingham would have been that game-changer but I'm not sure he would ever have chosen them above Real, for instance. And now that Jurgen Klopp's team won't be among the European elite next season, that is even clearer.

"It feels like Liverpool are deliberately lowering the expectations of their supporters ahead of the summer transfer market because so many of those fans seemed convinced that Jude would be the player to revitalise their team."
