Liverpool wait on Trent Alexander-Arnold injury after defender withdraws from England squad

Trent Alexander-Arnold has withdrawn from the England squad ahead of the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Czech Republic and Montenegro.

The Liverpool right-back arrived with a minor back injury and was not thought to be fit enough to play in either of the matches, on Friday or Monday evening. He has now returned to Melwood for rehabilitation ahead of Liverpool’s busy April.

Alexander-Arnold’s absence leaves Gareth Southgate to choose between Manchester City’s Kyle Walker and Spurs’ Kieran Trippier at right-back for the two qualifying games.

The defender is the fifth player to drop out of the squad, after John Stones, Fabian Delph, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Luke Shaw all withdrew through injury.

Liverpool must now wait to determine if Alexander-Arnold will be available to feature in key fixtures against Tottenham, Porto and Chelsea over the coming weeks.
