The South Korea international was introduced during the 2-1 defeat to Southampton ahead of the international break and again had to settle for a place on the bench on Merseyside.
For the hosts, Trent Alexander-Arnold was passed fit despite withdrawing from the England squad with a minor injury.
Xherdan Shaqiri was given a place among the substitutes despite suffering a similar complaint on international duty, while Jurgen Klopp plumped for a midfield three of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum.
