Liverpool vs Tottenham and the mixed results that pundits have predicted

Tottenham face arguably their toughest test yet this season when Mauricio Pochettino’s men travel to Anfield to take on table-toppers Liverpool.

Liverpool are yet to lose a game yet, while Tottenham are sitting in seventh.

Spurs grabbed an impressive Champions League win in midweek, thrashing Red Star Belgrade 5-0 in a match where Harry Kane and Son Heung-min both scored braces.

Liverpool also impressed, beating Belgian First Division champions Genk 4-1 away from home.

Pochettino wants Spurs to carry their momentum from the Champions League into the game, where a win could see his side two points off the top four if results go their way.

This is what the pundits are predicting for the outcome of the contest.

Michael Owen - BetVictor - Liverpool to lead half time-and full-time

A repeat of the Champions League Final and I believe it will be a similar result with Liverpool holding most of the aces especially as they are likely to have Mo Salah back in the starting XI having missed Sunday’s draw at Old Trafford.

Spurs have won just three of their last dozen league games and they made seven changes to their starting XI against Watford last weekend which suggests Mauricio Pochettino is not sure what his best team is at present.

Spurs have conceded early goals against both Brighton and Watford in recent games and the Reds were 1-0 up in the Champions League Final inside five minutes in Madrid at the beginning of June. I expect it to be another difficult afternoon for Spurs.

Mark Lawrenson - BBC Sport - Draw 1-1

In the past few seasons, while Mauricio Pochettino has been in charge of Tottenham, the Reds always know they are going to get a game against Spurs.

Their last visit here, when Tottenham only lost to a late Toby Alderweireld own-goal, was an example of that. Spurs had been the better team in the second half.

Nobody is expecting that to be the case this time, after the way Tottenham have played in the past few weeks, but I still think they have got it in them to spring a shock.

They have got some really potent attacking players and it would not surprise me if they are close to their best again in this game after a series of disappointing results.

At the same time, I am a little bit worried that if Liverpool are below their best again, like they were against Manchester United when they did not quite get the different areas of their team right, then they might slip up.

Charlie Nicholas - Sky Sports - Liverpool to win 3-0

This is a cracking game. Tottenham bounced back in the Champions League, getting a lot of anger out of their system. The way he keeps talking it is as if Mauricio Pochettino has a back-up plan in the form of Manchester United or Real Madrid, who supposedly want him.

He knows he gets on with the owner. The players want to take him for dinner too, it could be a drive-through! Toby Alderweireld was rested, so where does that leave him? They now go on to Liverpool. Does he not play because he is running his current contract down?

Tottenham managed to salvage a point against Watford and could have some confidence going into Anfield after their win through the week. Although, I do not see past a Liverpool win and they will continue to roll along with Mohamed Salah back in the side, who scored in the week against Genk.
