Liverpool vs Red Star Belgrade: Why are there no away fans at Anfield for Champions League group stage clash?

Liverpool take on Red Star Belgrade in front of a crowd comprised exclusively of home fans when the sides meet at Anfield this evening.

The visitors have been banned from bringing supporters to Merseyside after being hit by Uefa sanctions prior to the start of their Champions League campaign.

Red Star supporters were found guilty of invading the pitch and setting off fireworks after seeing their team earn a 2-2 play-off draw at RB Salzburg that sealed their progression to the group stages.

As a result, they were banned from bringing fans to their next two European away games - trips to Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool.

The hosts have instead been allowed to sell the away allocation to their own fans, with a section of the returned tickets having been ring-fenced for supporters aged between 17 and 21.

As such, Anfield will be packed out with Reds hoping to cheer their team on to victory in their third Champions League group game.
