Jurgen Klopp insists his Liverpool side cannot take their past record of Champions League comebacks for granted.
The Reds trail in their quarter-final tie against Real Madrid after suffering a 3-1 first-leg defeat in Spain last week.
To reach the final in 2019, Liverpool sensationally overcame a 3-0 deficit against Barcelona in front of a roaring Anfield crowd before beating Tottenham in Madrid.
With games still behind closed doors for now, they will have to create their own Anfield fear factor and cannot rely on past glories in Wednesday’s second leg.
"You cannot take it for granted. You don't get a comeback because you had one in the past," said Klopp. "You only have a chance if you play really good football in the present. The situation is clear. That's why this competition is so interesting.
"When you're 3-1 down, it looks like you're already out. We will give it a try. I think that's the job we have to do and that's exactly how we will go for it.
"The result is a problem. One extra problem is that the stadium is empty."
Left-back Andy Robertson added that the onus is on the Liverpool squad to create an atmosphere and extra boost.
“It’s up to us to create a Champions League atmosphere with no fans," said Robertson. “The Barcelona game wouldn’t have been possible without fans, they made us feel 10 feet tall. It gave you that extra 5, 10 per cent."
