Liverpool vs Napoli result: Reds thrashed by Lorenzo Insigne inspired Italians in Edinburgh
A Lorenzo Insigne inspired Napoli thrashed Liverpool 3-0 at Murrayfield on a somewhat disheartening day for the Reds, despite it only being a pre-season friendly.
Carlo Ancelotti's side enjoyed a fine start to the match as Insigne scored a brilliant goal after just 17 minutes, weaving past two challenges before thrashing past Simon Mingolet. And, before the match could even reach the half-hour mark, Arkadiusz Milik tucked home a low cross with a cute finish into the far corner to see the Italians take a clear ascendancy.
Any threat of a second-half fightback was promptly extinguished when Amin Younes tapped in from close range after some more fine work by Insigne. Relive all the action below:
Simon Mignolet is forced into his first save of the game as Simone Verdi cuts in from the right and curls a shot towards the top left corner. Liverpool's rangy goalkeeper is made to stretch but saves it comfortably.
Some fine play out the back from Napoli, who initially don't panic under pressure from Liverpool, but that changes in a moment as the Serie A side's defence nearly gives the ball away on the edge of their box.
GOAL FOR NAPOLI! INSIGNE GIVES THE ITALIAN SIDE THE LEAD!

A patient build-up from Liverpool finds Origi deep in Napoli's half, but the striker miscontrols the ball and Napoli break. Lorenzo Insigne runs at the Liverpool defence, cuts onto his right and fires a precise shot into the bottom corner to Mignolet's left!
Liverpool are back in possession, but are struggling to really mount much of an attack right now. Napoli are content for Jurgen Klopp's side to have the ball in their own half.
Van Dijk and Fabinho are looking to dictate most of Liverpool's play, but there's too much distance between them and the European champions' forward players.
Joel Matip blocks a long-range Napoli effort and Carlo Ancelotti's team have a corner.
Liverpool clear the corner all the way to the Napoli defence. A long ball is played over the top, but Dries Mertens - who collects the ball on the left wing - is just offside.
The game hasn't really gotten going yet, but it's Napoli who look slicker. They press quickly after an Alexander-Arnold throw-in in Liverpool's half and earn one of their own.
Arkadiusz Milik slides onto the end of a low cross from the left, and sends the ball past Mignolet into the far corner. A really smart finish from the Polish striker.
Klopp's key players look a little lethargic, perhaps from their reduced rest this summer, resulting from a successful Champions League campaign. Napoli are not giving them an inch at the moment.
Henderson picks out Wijnaldum on the right wing with a really nice long pass, but the Dutchman gives away a free-kick after struggling to control the ball.
Klopp is voicing his frustration on the sideline. The first half is nearing its end and there are no real signs of Liverpool finding a foothold, let alone a goal.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is Liverpool's stand-out player at the moment. That may not sound like a ringing endorsement, but the England international is full of verve and is shielding the ball well when in possession.
