Liverpool vs Flamengo player ratings: Roberto Firmino settles Club World Cup final in extra-time

Roberto Firmino’s extra-time strike delivered Liverpool their first ever Club World Cup in a 1-0 victory over Flamengo.

The Reds started off on the front foot and peppered Diego Alves’s goal, Trent Alexander-Arnold’s fierce strike zipped inches wide of the post. But the Brazilians weathered the storm and began to grow into the game, namely down the left through Filipe Luis, but the dangerous Gabriel Barbosa struggled to find space inside the box.

Alves denied Jordan Henderson’s superb strike, after good work from Sadio Mane, tipping it over the bar and away from the top corner. Mane was then brought down on the edge of the area in stoppage time, but a lengthy VAR check saw the initial decision of a penalty chalked off and the decision changed to no foul at all.

A lethal Liverpool counter attack then undid the Brazilians in extra-time, with Roberto Firmino polishing off the move with a cool head to round Alves and smash home. Lincoln skied a simple chance to force penalties in the 119th minute as the Reds hung on to create more history.

Here are the player ratings from Doha.
