Liverpool vs Crystal Palace - LIVE
Liverpool’s miserable run of form continued as they were beaten at home by Crystal Palace on Wednesday night to crash out of the Carabao Cup as Ismaila Sarr kept up his excellent goalscoring record against the Reds by netting twice in quick succession towards the end of the first-half.
Yeremy Pino then added a third goal late on, after Amara Nallo had been sent-off for the hosts for a professional foul, to seal yet another memorable result for Palace in meetings with the Merseyside giants as Arne Slot’s decision to name inexperienced starting XI and an equally youthful bench ultimately backfired.
The Dutchman did, however, tweak his system as the Reds matched Palace by lining up with a back three which could be a sign of what is to come as he attempts to turn his side’s form around. Ultimately though it’s a fifth straight domestic defeat for Liverpool as attentions turn towards three massive games before the international break - against Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Manchester City. Virgil van Dijk: "The reaction must start now"
19:35 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneLiverpool captain Virgil van Dijk is not in the matchday squad tonight, but he has outlined his intention for the turnaround in results to begin tonight.
Writing in his column inside the matchday programme for the fourth-round tie, he said: "My message ahead of this game is a simple one: we stick together, no matter what.
"We know that this is a difficult moment. We know that results and performances are not what we want them to be, and that will lead to pressure, scrutiny and criticism from the outside.
"We accept that. When you play for a club like Liverpool, it comes with certain standards and expectations. So when you fall short of those standards and don't meet those expectations, you have to deal with what comes next. That's just how it is.
"And then you have to show the right reaction. You have to look at yourself, show strength and character, work hard and find a way to bounce back. That is exactly what we will be looking to do this evening."

Kick-off approaching on Merseyside.
19:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne15 minutes to go until kick-off at Anfield.
Crystal Palace will feel they have a psychological edge over Liverpool after beating them twice already this season.
They've also not lost on this ground since September 2021.

New role for Robertson?
19:25 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneLooking at the Liverpool team and it would appear that Andy Robertson - captaining the side - will operate at centre-back alongside Joe Gomez.
It will be a different role for the Scotland international as we’ve become used to him getting forward at left-back.

Slot explains Liverpool team
19:20 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneArne Slot has been speaking to Sky Sports ahead of kick-off, explaining his decision to name a very youthful Liverpool team tonight.
He said: “People that know this club and have been following for a few years know that this competition we also use for the younger players.
“We want to create a pathway for them to play in front of 60,000 people.”

Arne Slot slammed for 'diabolical' Arsenal comments
19:10 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneArne Slot's recent comments about Arsenal have been branded "diabolical".
The Gunners have climbed to the top of the Premier League this season thanks in part to scoring an unrivalled nine set-piece goals, including both winners in their most recent 1-0 wins, over Fulham and Crystal Palace.
Arsenal have scored 37 goals from set-pieces since the start of the 2023-24 season, which is 11 more than any other side in Europe's big five leagues.
In contrast, Liverpool are shipping goals at set-pieces this season, which has resulted in part to their Premier League title defence collapsing at an alarming rate.

Liverpool form
19:05 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneSince losing to Crystal Palace 32 days ago Liverpool have been in an outright slump, picking up just one win in five games across all competitions.
Four of those have resulted in defeats - including a 2-1 loss at the hands of bitter rivals Manchester United in their last outing at Anfield.

Crystal Palace changes
18:55 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneOliver Glasner has made five changes to his Crystal Palace starting XI for tonight’s cup tie.
Eddie Nketiah, scored the winner in the last meeting between the two sides, leads the line as Will Hughes and Borna Sosa replace Adam Wharton and Tyrick Mitchell respectively.
The other two alterations were revealed yesterday with Walter Benitez and Jaydee Canvot being drafted in at Anfield.

Liverpool changes
18:50 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneArne Slot has made TEN changes to the Liverpool side that started against Brentford at the weekend with Milos Kerkez the sole survivor from the 3-2 defeat.
Andy Robertson will captain the Reds, while there are also starts for Federico Chiesa, Wataru Endo, Joe Gomez and Alexis Mac Allister.
Elsewhere, Freddie Woodman and Kieran Morrison are handed debuts.

Stay tuned...
Richards injury latest
18:20 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneOliver Glasner has confirmed Chris Richards will miss Crystal Palace’s Carabao Cup tie against Liverpool.
Richards, who scored Palace’s goal in the third round penalty shootout win over London rivals Millwall, has featured in all but two games across all competitions so far this season.
This includes the Community Shield win - on penalties - over Liverpool back in August as well as the 2-1 Premier League victory against the same opposition a month ago.
However, the USMNT defender will not be in the matchday squad for the trip to Merseyside because of a calf issue sustained in the 1-0 loss to Arsenal at the weekend.

Can Ekitike play after red card?
18:15 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneHugo Ekitike was the hero and nearly the villain for Liverpool in their Carabao Cup third-round win over Southampton.
Ekitike scored what proved to be the winner to set up tonight's fourth-round tie, but the moment was quickly soured as the Frenchman, who was already on a booking for a foul early in the second half, was shown a red card after taking off his shirt in celebration.
That left Liverpool to see out the final four minutes plus stoppage time with ten men and head coach Arne Slot was far from impressed with Ekitike’s actions.
That said, can Ekitike play in Carabao Cup tonight after the red card?

Tonight's fixtures

Carabao Cup fourth-round results
18:05 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneThree ties took place last night with Brentford thumping Grimsby to end the League Two side's journey in the competition after that high-profile win against Manchester United in the second round.
Elsewhere, Cardiff beat Wrexham in the all-Welsh affair and Fulham needed a penalty shootout to overcome Wycombe.
Grimsby 0-5 Brentford
Wycombe 1-1 Fulham (Fulham win 4-5 on pens)
Wrexham 1-2 Cardiff

Predicted Liverpool XI
18:00 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneFreddie Woodman is in line to make his first start for Liverpool with Alisson Becker still out injured and Giorgi Mamardashvili likely to be rested.
Jeremie Frimpong’s hamstring injury should see Conor Bradley get the nod at right-back once again and Joe Gomez could be partnered by Wataru Endo in central defence, thus handing Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk a rest.
Andy Robertson is set to replace Milos Kerkez at left-back but midfielders Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones will be assessed.
Alexander Isak missed the trip to the capital over the weekend with a groin issue and is unlikely to be risked even if passed fit, which means Hugo Ekitike is likely to continue leading the line.
Predicted Liverpool XI: Woodman; Bradley, Gomez, Endo, Robertson; Nyoni, Mac Allister; Chiesa, Wirtz, Ngumoha; Ekitike

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace score prediction
17:35 , Tashan Deniran-AlleynePalace have been a real bogey team for Liverpool in recent years and they will be relishing the chance to pile more misery on a Reds side over whom they will feel they have a psychological edge after beating them twice already this season.
However, Glasner’s men aren’t in their best moment either, winless in four having drawn successive blanks.
Liverpool to win, 2-1.

Crystal Palace team news: Glasner confirms starters
17:30 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneCheick Doucoure and teenage defender Caleb Kporha are still sidelined for Palace, while Chadi Riad is expected to resume training soon after a long-term knee injury.
Oliver Glasner confirmed on Tuesday that Walter Benitez and Jaydee Canvo will both start at Anfield but Chris Richards will be absent from the matchday squad after suffering a calf issue in the loss to Arsenal.

Liverpool team news: Summer signing could make debut
17:25 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneLiverpool were without record signing Alexander Isak and Ryan Gravenberch for Saturday’s 3-2 loss at Brentford.
It seems unlikely that they will be risked here even if fit with huge games against the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City approaching fast.
Alisson Becker is not expected to be ready to return from a hamstring injury and Giorgi Mamardashvili is likely to be rested after starting the last five games in a row in the absence of the first-choice goalkeeper.
Therefore, summer signing Freddie Woodman is in line to make his competitive debut for the club.
Jeremie Frimpong (also hamstring) will be out for weeks and Giovanni Leoni for around a year after surgery on a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
