Liverpool vs Chelsea LIVE – League Cup third round: Latest score and goal updates from Anfield
Chelsea head to Liverpool as the underdogs having squandered their perfect Premier League record to West Ham last weekend but the Blues are undefeated in their last seven visits to Anfield. Meanwhile Liverpool, the solitary survivors in the Premier League’s 100% club remain in imperious form and Jurgen Klopp will be keen to maintain that momentum.
The two most successful clubs in Carabao Cup history share 13 trophies between them but both managers are expected to take the opportunity to rest key players. Out-of-favour remnants from Conte’s old guard such as Davide Zappacosta and Victor Moses will return while Xherdan Shaqiri can build on the abrupt end to his standout performance in Liverpool’s win over Southampton last Saturday.
The match also represents a key chance for each club’s struggling Englishmen. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley will both start having been deprived of minutes thus far while 17-year-old Callum Hudson-Odoi may make his debut from the bench after an impressive pre-season. Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke will also make his first appearance this season and faces his former club who, ironically, he left in 2017 to get more game time.
Hazard gets the ball in the middle of the park, he runs it to the right wing and gives it to Azpilicueta. Chelsea's right back gives him the ball back and he runs it into the box and powers home a brilliant shot!
Keita gives away a free kick. The ball comes into the box and Barkley wins the header, Mignolet makes a good one handed save and Emerson puts the rebound into the back of the net.
Keita raided down the left for Liverpool getting all the way to the box, he tried to sneak the ball past Caballero but the Chelsea keeper was up to the task
58 mins: GOAL! Liverpool 1 - 0 Chelsea - Sturridge
Liverpool press Chelsea high and win back the ball, Mane finds Keita in the box and Keita shoots. Caballero makes a decent save but the ricochet comes to Sturridge who makes an overhead kick and puts the ball into the net.
Fabinho takes down Fabregas and gets a talking to from the ref. Liverpool win a throw in and they look more attacking this half. Caballero hits the ball forward and Fabinho takes down Morata getting a yellow card
Ross Barkley makes a mistake this time, he heads the ball back towards the defence and Mane gets a toe on the ball to direct it goalwards. Caballero makes another save.
