Liverpool vs Burnley prediction: Mo Salah to rub salt in Sean Dyche's wounds

Signs of normality returning at Liverpool will be a welcoming sign for Reds fans everywhere as they prepare to get revenge against a Burnley side who ended an impressive home record last season.

The Reds are the clear favourites today at 2/11 with Grosvenor Sport while Burnley are a length 15/1 and a draw is 6/1 - surprising considering the last time the Clarets came to Anfield.

Liverpool were strong and looked comfortable in their opening match at Carrow Road against Norwich City - only Brighton & Hove Albion were the other team to win away in the first weekend of the season, coincidentally, against Burnley.

The visitors had the perfect start in their opening match against Brighton, scoring with just two minutes on the clock before the Albion turned it around in the second-half and extending their poor home run in the league from last season.

Tips

  • Mo Salah to score first goal - 5/2
  • Liverpool to win and both sides to score - 43/20

Team stats

The Reds lost 1-0 at home to Burnley last season which ended their 68-match unbeaten league run at Anfield but the last time the Clarets registered consecutive away league wins against Liverpool dates back to the 19th century (1894/95 to 1896/97). The last team to achieve consecutive away wins at Anfield was Crystal Palace from 2014/15 to 2016/17.

Burnley have suffered 10 defeats in 14 Premier League matches against Liverpool - winning twice and drawing twice in the other matches.

Player stats

Mo Salah has only scored once against the Clarets in the Premier League while Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino (four and five respectively) have a much better record.

Ashley Barnes was the player to end Liverpool's unbeaten home run in the Premier League last season - the start of a woeful 2021 record too.

H2H

This will be the 105th meeting between the two sides dating back to September 1894.

Liverpool have won the most with 48 and drawing 26 - losing the rest to their rivals.

In their last five meetings, two of them have finished with both teams scoring.
