Liverpool vs Barcelona fixture confirmed for Champions League semi-final

Liverpool will be reunited with Philippe Coutinho and What Luis Suarez has said about Liverpool return as Reds bid for Barcelona Champions League semi-final next month after reaching their second successive Champions League semi-final.

The Reds will face Barcelona for a place in the final after they Liverpool send message to Barcelona and Manchester City with emphatic Porto win in Champions League to progress 6-1 on aggregate.

Barca booked their berth on Tuesday when they followed last week's 1-0 win at Manchester United with ex-Red Coutinho scoring in a 3-0 stroll at Camp Nou.

If both Manchester United and City had progressed, Liverpool would have lost their home advantage in the second leg.

But now Liverpool travel to Spain for the first leg on April 30 or May 1 with the second leg at Anfield on May 7 or 8.

The winners will face either Ajax or Spurs in the final in Atletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano stadium on June 1.

It is the 11th time Liverpool have reached the semi-finals of the European Cup.

Of the previous nine, they have lost only twice – to Inter Milan in 1965 and Chelsea in 2008.

The Reds have been drawn to face Barcelona on three separate occasions in European knockout competition and have progressed each time while twice going on to lift the trophy.

In the UEFA Cup semi-final in 1975-76, they followed a 1-0 win at Camp Nou with a 1-1 draw at home before beating Bruges in the final.

Barca were again the opponents in the 2000-01 UEFA Cup semi-final, with Liverpool following a goalless draw in Spain with a 1-0 triumph at Anfield. Alaves were then beaten 5-4 to secure silverware.

And in the 2006-07 Champions League campaign, a 2-1 win at Camp Nou ensured the Reds progress on away goals despite losing the second leg 1-0 at home.

Liverpool also faced Barcelona in the second Champions League group stage in 2001-02, beaten 3-1 at Anfield but drawing in Spain. Both teams went through to the quarter-finals.
