Liverpool vs Barcelona: Do away goals count in extra time in Champions League?

Liverpool produced another stunning European comeback in their Champions League clash with Barcelona .

The Reds trailed 3-0 from the first leg at the Nou Camp last week as Lionel Messi scored twice.

The tie appeared to be over for Jurgen Klopp's men, who were without Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at Anfield.

But Divock Origi gave them home as he tapped home after just eight minutes of the semi-final second leg.

Liverpool also lost Andy Robertson to injury at half-time but his replacement Gini Wijnaldum scored twice in as many minutes to level the scores on aggregate.

The three goals looked set to take the tie to extra time and potentially penalties.

But Liverpool knew an away goal for Barca would swing the tie back in their favour with the hosts then needing two.

The away goal rule also counts in both periods of extra time. If Barcelona were to score in extra time, Liverpool would then need to score twice in order to progress.
