Liverpool vs Arsenal lineups: The starting XIs we expect to see this evening at Anfield

Liverpool (David Lynch)

Jurgen Klopp is expected to ring the changes again when Liverpool resume their League Cup campaign agains Arsenal at Anfield tonight

As was the case for third-round win over MK Dons, the Reds boss will call upon a combination of academy starlets and senior squad members who have struggled for game time as his side bid for a place in the competition's quarter-final stage.

Caoimhin Kelleher is guaranteed to start in goal, while Neco Williams and Sepp van den Berg are in line to benefit from the absence of Ki-Jana Hoever and Joel Matip due to international duty and injury respectively to make their first-team debuts.

Elsewhere, there will be further opportunties for Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to build on their impressive showings at Genk last week.

Liverpool [4-3-3]: Kelleher; Williams, Van den Berg, Gomez, Milner; Lallana, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain; Brewster, Origi, Jones.

Arsenal (Simon Collings)

As he has throughout his reign as Arsenal head coach, Unai Emery is expected to rotate his squad for this Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool.

It means senior players such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Granit Xhaka will be rested for the trip to Anfield ahead of Saturday’s match with Wolves.

Xhaka was always likely to be rested but, given the weekend’s events against Crystal Palace, it is perhaps ideal timing to take him out of the firing line.

At the back, Emiliano Martinez should return in goal and ahead of him Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding will hope to get more minutes under their belt.

Arsenal will likely go with a midfield of Joe Willock and Lucas Torreira, but it is ahead of them where there is debate.

Emery has confirmed Mesut Ozil will be in the squad and the German is in line to make only his third appearance of the season.

Ozil will most likely play as the No10 and, with Bukayo Saka on the left; that leaves the right side open for either Ainsley Maitland-Niles or Emile Smith Rowe.

Given Smith Rowe was one of the few bright sparks against Vitoria last week he deserves to start and Gabriel Martinelli should complete the team by playing upfront.
