Two of European football’s most succesful clubs begin their Champions League campaigns at Anfield tonight as Liverpool host AC Milan.
Between them, the two sides have won the competition 13 times and have faced each other in two finals, most memorably in Istanbul in 2005, when Liverpool came from 3-0 down to win on penalties.
While Liverpool have been Champions League regulars in recent years, winning the competition in 2019 and reaching the final the year before, Milan are making their return to the tournament having not qualified since the 2013/14 season.
