Liverpool used a decoy team bus to attract protesting Manchester United fans who were intent on delaying their arrival to Old Trafford.
A red Liverpool bus with the signage including the club's 'This Means More' logo was blocked en route to the ground as United fans continued the anti-Glazer protests that saw the first match between the pair called off on May 2.
Some reports suggested that the tyres of the bus were let down, but the bus was able to continue its journey despite the best efforts from United fans.
However, Liverpool's players actually travelled to the stadium in two unbranded black buses, eventually arriving at the ground without being detected by fans.
Liverpool's players arrived at the ground in plenty of time for the match, with Reds stars able to walk onto the pitch and sample the surroundings before the game.
United's players, meanwhile, had been at the ground over six hours before kick-off as they escaped the potential issues caused by the protests.
Speaking about the early arrival, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told Sky Sports: “The boys have been focused.
“We reported a little bit earlier at the stadium but we’ve had lunch, we’ve had meetings, we’ve had the pre-match meal as normal and ready to play a game of football.
“We’ve tried to keep it as close to normal as possible for them, but obviously the early reporting time was a little bit different.
“They’ve been very good at adjusting and adapting. It’s been a difficult year for everyone, football’s not been the same.
“Project Restart started with the boys washing their own clothes - they’ve grown through parts of this period as well.”
