Liverpool urged to sign Youri Tielemans to replace Gini Wijnaldum

Liverpool have been urged to sign Youri Tielemans, but warned that a deal is not likely to happen.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the Leicester City midfielder, who enjoyed an impressive season with the Foxes.

Tielemans arrived in January 2019 on loan from Anderlecht, before the move was made permanent that summer.

The Belgium international is one of a number of midfielders tipped to potentially replace Gini Wijnaldum, who will join Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor says that Liverpool “need” to get a deal for Tielemans sorted, but have been warned that Leicester may not sell.

“He’s definitely good enough,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider .

“He’s a great player and Liverpool definitely need to replace Wijnaldum. I thought they needed another midfielder even if Wijnaldum had stayed.

“It’s definitely something Liverpool need to get over the line.

“I just don’t see Leicester letting him go though, even if the player wanted to go. I don’t see Leicester letting any of their better players go.”

Despite Agbonlahor’s claims, Leicester do have a history of doing business with their Premier League rivals but only in big-money deals.

In the past five transfer windows, Leicester have sold at least one of their star players to a Premier League rival.

N’Golo Kante, Danny Drinkwater and Ben Chilwell left to join Chelsea, while Riyad Mahrez signed for Manchester City and year after Harry Maguire joined Manchester United.
