Liverpool urged to sign Youri Tielemans but receive transfer warning

Liverpool have been urged to sign Youri Tielemans by one of their former players.

The Reds have been linked with the Leicester City star throughout the summer, as they get credited with potentially targeting a host of midfielders.

Gini Wijnaldum’s departure has led to speculation linking Liverpool with a move for a replacement, with Tielemans being one of many names tipped to be that player.

Jurgen Klopp’s side started the new Premier League season in style, winning 3-0 away to newly-promoted Norwich City.

The game saw James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain start in midfield, with Fabinho and Harvey Elliott introduced later on.

After the game, former Liverpool captain Jamie Redknapp says that his old club need to sign a new midfielder.

Redknapp believes that Tielemans fits the bill of what Liverpool need right now, and has back his old club to get a deal over the line.

“Liverpool have to get a midfield player in,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“That's a major blow, losing Wijnaldum, and I don't think they've got the capability of actually replacing him right now.

“Who you get is incredibly difficult: I always look at Liverpool as buying the best players.

“I would go for [Youri] Tielemans – I would do everything in my power to get him into the club.

“He's a Liverpool type of player. Leicester fans will probably be throwing cups of tea at the TV now, saying 'well, why would he want to leave when he's at a big club?' And he is at a big club with a great manager.

“Leicester are obviously in the ascendancy, I love what they're doing there.

“They're not a selling club anymore but that's the sort of player who you need to get, who will come into the club and make you better, because right now, that's where they're short.”
